Get to know Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, Bernie Chance, who serves patients in Texas.

Bernie is a board-certified family nurse practitioner specializing in cardiac care. She has demonstrated strengths in clinical operations, team-building and management, compliance and clinical program development, development and implementation of best practices based on quality outcomes and ROI standards, and implementation of patient-centered care models both in inpatient and outpatient health care settings. 

Inspiring growth, best practices, and highest patient quality of care and outcomes, Bernie is the Clinical Director for Flow Therapy in Dallas, Texas.

Flow Therapy (also known as EECP®) is widely considered the most effective non-invasive treatment for heart conditions such as angina, and symptoms associated with heart disease such as chest pain, shortness of breath, and fatigue. Using advanced counter pulsation technology synced up to one’s heartbeat, EECP Flow Therapy treatments increase the flow of oxygenated blood to the heart by increasing the volume and velocity of blood through the body. 

Academically, Bernie graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Texas Woman’s University in 1999. She then went on to earn her Master of Science in Nursing degree (Family Nurse Practitioner Program) from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 2004.

With over 20 years of clinical experience, Bernie has served as the National Clinical Director for AllerVie Health (2021 – 2022), St. Luke’s Health Division DSRIP Program Coordinator at St. Luke’s Health (2017 – 2021), Nurse Practitioner Team Lead at St. Luke’s Health (2014 – 2021), BSLMC DSRIP Program Manager at St. Luke’s Health (2014 – 2021), and as a Preceptor at St. Luke’s Health (2014 – 2021).

A collaborative, purposeful provider with a compassionate, straightforward approach and a vision for innovation, Bernie does preceptorships for undergraduate and graduate nursing students. 

In addition, she is an active member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the American Nurses Association, and the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses. 

A Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC) holds board certification and provides continuing and comprehensive healthcare for individuals and families across all ages, genders, diseases, and body systems. FNPs maintain patient records, perform physical exams, order or perform diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, develop treatment plans, as well as treat acute and chronic illnesses, conditions, and injuries that fall under primary care.

For Bernie, the very best thing about being a nurse practitioner is empowering patients to take care of themselves and better their own lives. She is the recipient of the 2023 Best in Texas Magazine Award for Excellence in Medicine.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, she serves as a coach for the Greater Lewisville Area Soccer Association.
